We shall provide the same compassionate and quality care for our patients, as we would expect for our own families. Every Patient, Every Time. We shall treat each other and our patients in a respectful and professional manner.
McKenzie Medical Center has evolved a long way since August 1978 when Dr. Winkler first started practicing in McKenzie. The McKenzie Medical Center opened its current location at 205 Hospital Drive in June 2000. Its addition was completed in September 2011.
The first clinic was located downtown on Main Street by the old post office (now the Museum) and the Town Square. Originally Dr. Edward’s office, the facilities were also used by Dr. Lane Bicknell and then Dr. SS Walker. Throughout this time, half of the building served as a Gulf gas station.
As the number of baby deliveries increased, it became apparent that a move to the hospital clinic (within the same building as the McKenzie Regional Hopsital – 201 Hospital Drive) was essential for DR. WINKLER . From 1981 to 2000, the clinic expanded through the McKenzie Doctors Clinic growing from one office to filling all the available space. It was during this time that DR. COLOTTA joined the McKenzie Medical Center team (in August 1994).
Meanwhile, DR. MERRICK originally worked out of the hospital clinic, building his own Merrick Clinic in 1993 ( it is the building which currently hosts Rejuvenate MedSpa & Salon).
As the demand for doctors and services increased, the move to a new facility became a must. By joining their practices under one roof in 2000, Drs. Merrick, Colotta and Winkler’s aim was to be able to provide a range of services not possible as individuals. As a result a new building was constructed behind McKenzie Regional Hospital at 205 Hospital Drive – MMC’s current location
McKenzie Medical Center strives to enhance the access and quality of medical care available to residents not only in McKenzie but also in surrounding areas. To better achieve this goal MMC opened its first satellite clinic in Bruceton in July 2008. The BRUCETON CLINIC is the town’s only family medical clinic.
In December 2009, MMC opened its second satellite clinic in Dresden. The initial goal of the DRESDEN CLINIC is to provide further family medicine options for Dresden and the surrounding area.
In July 2013, MMC purchased its third satellite clinic, the THE GLEASON CLINIC from Angie Carey, following the death of Julius Carey “J.C.” MMC worked closely with J.C. since his start in Gleason in 1988. As a result, there is an established relationship between MMC and the Gleason Clinic. Both clinics are dedicated to providing top-of-the-line healthcare and treating their patients in the same way they would like their own family members to be treated.
Since 2010 the medical services at MMC have continued to grow, as does the patient volume and the number of employees. As a result the need for more space has become essential. On April 27, 2010 MMC had an official groundbreaking ceremony for a NEW ADDITION that increased its current facility size by 40,000 sq feet.
In 2018, Dr. Winkler unfortunately passed away in February due to a cycling accident. MMC was devastated by the lose of our founder. In September, McKenzie Regional Hospital closed its doors and was purchased by Baptist Memorial Hospital of Carroll County. As a result of the hospital closure, MMC had to close its OB Department in August 2018. It was with a heavy heart to let a department go that had been delivering babies for over 40 years.
In an attempt to help provide the community with quality care, especially considering the loss of the town’s ER, MMC extended its Urgent Care Hours so that they are now open 7 days a week: Mon-Sat: 8am-10pm & Sun 1-6pm.
In January 2019, MMC opened a clinic at Bethel University providing onsite Urgent Care video visits to students and faculty. It is located in the mobile building across from the Wildcat Stadium. It is open Mon, Thu, Fri 8 am – 12 pm & Tue, Wed: 1-4:30 pm.
Change is a big part of medical practice. Progress in medicine is welcome and essential. We plan to continue to grow and stay current with the times to always provide the benefits of big city medicine in a small town.
